Bringing a baby into the world is an emotional experience for any family, but for those of us who have faced a NICU journey, the emotions run deeper, filled with uncertainty, strength, and unshakable hope. It’s a reality I know all too well.

When my son was born at just 27 weeks, we began an 85-day stay in the NICU—a period marked by alarms, incubators, and the constant balancing act of life. At home, my 9-month-old daughter needed her mother. At the hospital, my tiny fighter needed me, too. Juggling both worlds was one of the hardest challenges I’ve ever faced as a parent.
Each day in the NICU brought its own hurdles, from setbacks to small victories. I’ll never forget the moment I was first able to hold my son skin-to-skin, or the relief of hearing the words, “He’s gaining weight.” But with every hopeful step forward, there were also moments of exhaustion and fear. Would he be okay? Was I giving enough to both my children during this time?
Despite the trials, my family’s NICU journey taught me a profound truth: NICU babies are superheroes in the making. They may be tiny, but they are the fiercest fighters. And their families? We’re their capes, lifting them up every step of the way.

It’s these stories of resilience and love that I strive to capture as a photographer, especially when working with NICU graduates like baby Karter. Karter, featured in these images, recently left the NICU and is already proving how strong he is. For his photoshoot, we wanted to honor his journey and celebrate the fighter he is by creating a “superhero” theme.
Images like these are more than portraits—they’re symbols of victory. They celebrate how far a baby has come and acknowledge the strength it takes for families to navigate a NICU stay.
To every NICU parent: your journey is one of love, resilience, and immeasurable strength. Whether you’re still in the thick of it or reflecting on how far your little one has come, know that you are not alone. Your NICU graduate is truly extraordinary, and so are you.

If you’re a NICU parent and would like to celebrate your little one’s journey with a meaningful photoshoot, I would be honored to help you tell their story. Let’s create images that capture their strength and your love, because both deserve to be celebrated.
